GHGA Course: Data Protection Course for Human Research - May 2024

We are pleased to announce the next iteration of the GHGA data protection course. The event will be held virtually on May 23rd 2024, 14:00-17:00 CEST.
Due to high demand we added a second course on June 17th 2024, 13:00-16:00 CEST.
This course is designed to provide an overview of data protection regulations and obligations, with a focus on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
During the course, we will cover the following key talking points:
- What is personal data and special category personal data? We will explore the different types of data that are protected under the GDPR, including what makes data personal and why some forms of personal data are considered to be ‘special category’.
- What is the purpose of legal bases for processing and what are they?
- Data processing roles and obligations: what roles are described in the GDPR, and what are the obligations of each role?
- Data subjects' rights: what rights do data subjects have under the GDPR, and how can they exercise these rights?
- Data protection measures in GHGA: What measures does GHGA have in place to protect personal data and ensure compliance with the GDPR?
Our expert speakers, Simon Parker (Data Protection Coordinator for GHGA) and Vanessa Ribao (Training Coordinator for Data Protection), will provide a detailed overview of these topics and will be available to answer any questions you may have.
We welcome data stewards, but also encourage anyone who works with personal data, including healthcare professionals, researchers, and administrators to apply. This course will be particularly useful for those who want to understand GDPR compliance requirements and best practices for protecting personal data in the biomedical field.
