GHGA Webinar: 1001 Reasons for a Data Management Plan - with de.NBI

Data Management Plans (DMPs) are an essential component of research projects, providing a structured framework to ensure that data is adequately documented, organised, shared, and preserved throughout the research lifecycle. In this webinar, we will provide an introduction to data management plans, discussing key aspects of effective data management and how to develop a comprehensive data management plan.

We will start with an overview of data management, explaining why it is a critical component of research projects, and providing an introduction to the data management planning process. Participants will learn how to develop a data management plan that meets funding agency requirements and outlines the steps for efficient data management..  Components such as data description and metadata, data sharing and preservation, security and privacy, and ethical and legal considerations will be discussed.

In addition, this webinar will also provide practical guidance on how to implement and maintain effective data management practices. This includes creating and following a systematic and consistent data organisation system with file naming conventions, folder structures, and version control.  Selecting appropriate data repositories for sharing and preserving research data,as well as ensuring proper formatting and documentation for long-term preservation, will be covered.

The webinar will address common challenges in data management, including issues related to data privacy and security, sharing sensitive data, and ensuring that data is accessible and usable by others. We will provide guidance on how to address these challenges through effective planning and institutional policies and procedures.

Finally, the webinar will conclude with a discussion of best practices for data management and maintaining effective data management practices over time. Participants will learn how to create a culture of good data management within their research teams and organisations, and how to ensure that data management practices are regularly reviewed and updated as needed.

Overall, this webinar serves as a comprehensive introduction to data management planning, providing participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain effective data management plans for their research projects. Whether you are new to research data management or looking to improve your existing practices, this webinar is an essential resource for anyone involved in research data management and curation.
