GHGA Data Portal: New Upload Workflow Now Live

The latest GHGA Data Portal release introduces a new, fully integrated upload workflow that streamlines how data is transferred and improves coordination between data stewards and data submitters.

What’s new for GHGA users
Our data stewards can now create dedicated “upload boxes” and grant registered users access to them. Users see the assigned upload box in their account on the portal, providing a clear and centralised place to submit data. From within this interface, users can generate security tokens and use the GHGA command line interface tool (ghga-connector) to deposit research data into the correct upload box.

This new workflow replaces previously heterogeneous submission processes that depended on the individual infrastructure or setup of each data hub. Data stewards are freed up to focus more on coordinating submissions and supporting submitters rather than handling the technical aspects of file transfer infrastructure. By moving upload management into the portal itself, data submission becomes more consistent, transparent, and easier to coordinate across projects, while still maintaining secure handling of sensitive genomic data.

What stays the same
There are no changes to how users browse, discover, or access datasets in the GHGA Data Portal. The submission of non-personal metadata also stays the same. The update is focused entirely on improving the upload and submission side of the workflow.

What comes next
Future releases will focus on improving metadata management and the metadata lifecycle within the GHGA Data Portal. These developments are part of the ongoing scale-up of GHGA towards broader national operations. At the current stage, GHGA is operating in “pioneer mode” where only a limited number of submissions can be accepted. If you are interested in submitting data, please refer to the user documentation or contact the support team.
