Biography:

Ulli Prokosch is the Endowed Chair of Medical Informatics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) since 2003. I parallel he is also responsible as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the strategic IT management/planning of Erlangen University Hospital. While his research focus in earlier years was on electronic patient records and personal electronic health records as well as medical decision making, since about 2008 he has initiated first projects to support clinical and translational research, especially the reuse of real world data documented in hospital´s EHR systems. Within the large German funding program (the Medical Informatics Initiative) Prof. Prokosch leads the MIRACUM consortium (one of the four funded consortia) with 10 German university hospitals, two universities of applied sciences and two large non-academic hospitals (since 2023). The major aim of this project is to integrate and harmonize the data silos which were created in the last decade within the German university hospitals and leverage this data for Germany-wide real world data sharing and analysis projects. In the CODEX (Covid-19 Data Exchange Platform) Project, initiated by the German Network of University Medicine Prof. Prokosch is one of the project PIs. This work was continued within the MII ABIDE_MI Project (Aligning Biobanks with Data Integration Centers Efficiently) and is now integrated as a feasibility portal into the German Research Data Portal for Health (FDPG), a central component of the MII infrastructure.
