Fourth GHGA Data Hub Now Operational in Dresden

The GHGA network continues to grow, expanding its federated infrastructure for secure and efficient management of human genome data. Our Data Hubs, hosted at academic research institutions across Germany, act as infrastructure providers, offering storage, computational resources and expert staff to support the operation of the GHGA Data Portal. Each hub operates under strict security standards, employing advanced encryption and zero-trust principles to protect sensitive datasets.

Since the launch of the GHGA Data Portal in August 2024, the GHGA Data Hub at the DKFZ (Heidelberg) hosted the first dataset. The Data Hubs at the Uni Tübingen and in Berlin (MDC/BIH) soon followed. Now TU Dresden joins as the fourth operational Data Hub. This expansion strengthens GHGA’s distributed network and moves us closer to a fully federated platform for human genomic research.

The first dataset  stored at the Dresden GHGA Data Hub features transcriptomic data from patient-derived cerebral organoids. The sequencing was performed at the DRESDEN-concept Genome Center (DcGC) at TU Dresden. The study, led by Prof. Nataliya Di Donato—now at Hanover Medical School—who joined GHGA as a Participant during its second funding phase, will be published soon.

Looking forward, GHGA will continue onboarding the remaining Data Hubs and further expanding its federated infrastructure to support large-scale Omics studies across Germany.
